What's with the names?

We've given Charlie a lot of names in the short time we've had him, so to avoid any confusion while you're reading the blog, here are some of the names and explanations:

R. Charles Houdini: the name of this blog.
  • R-Radar, the name he was given at the shelter.
  • Charles-the proper name we gave him. Charlie for not so formal situations, like when he's not in trouble or being reprimanded.
  • Houdini-because he always seems to escape!

C-Dog: slang for Charlie dog.

Charley Barley: it rhymes and it's cute!

Cylon Radar: I'll break this into 2 parts.
  • Cylon-We call him that when his eyes reflect green in photos. We are mildly obsessed with Battlestar Galactica. The robots are called Cylons. Cylon Raiders are "...the main attack fighters used by the Cylons..." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylon_Raider). Although the Cylon Raiders on Battlestar have red glowing "eyes", the name is more of a play on words.
  • Radar-When we adopted him, the shelter had already named him Radar (he still responds to it even though he was only there for 3 weeks and he's been with us for over 3 months with the name Charlie). He was so nervous in the shelter that he would lay in his cage with his head low to the ground and scan the area with his eyes. I'm giggling about how silly he looks when he does that, but I know it must have been terrifying for him. Poor little guy!
Jarles/Barles/Gnarles: he can't discern between the Ch, J, Gn and B sound.

Little Charles: what's cuter than calling a little dog little?!

Prince Charles: especially when he's sleeping with us on the bed, living in the lap of luxury!
