Charlie day 7: monday

I took him out this morning for a half hour and he didn't pee or poop. BUT he did eat ALL OF HIS FOOD when I gave it to him!! It was the same concoction I had given to him the day before. Hesagudboyyyyyy. And before I took him out he was wagging his little stump of a tail because he was so excited to go outside. The cuteometer blew up at that point...

Charlie day 6: written on Monday about sunday

I went to sleep at 8am yesterday morning. Slept until about 11:30, when Charlie woke me up, howling. Haha where did all of his doggie parts come from?! I took him out for about a half hour walk. He may have peed but he didn't poop. I gave him a treat when we got home, which he ate. I gave him dry food mixed with wet food with some fat droppings and flax seed oil all mixes together. He seemed really interested in it but I think only took a few bites. We decided to go into the city for brunch... And to bring him with us. He was really good on the metro north train!! We stood the whole way in and there was a crowd of people around us petting him and talking about how his body looks photoshopped together. We walked through crowded Grand Central, sat at a table for brunch in Bryant Park, walked down to the dog run at Madison Square Park. Mark took him in and he made some doggie friends. Everyone wanted to pet him!! He's getting used to people reaching down to him and he's not flinching as much. Then we walked to a restaurant with outdoor seating for him. And he laid there like a good boy. Only got up a few times. Then we took a cab to Grand Central and I held him on my lap. He was scared. But he made it through!! Mark put his water and food in his cage with him last night and his food was gone this morning.

Charlie day 5: saturday

Took him out for about a half hour in the morning and he didn't poop or pee. Woke up at noon to take him out and he actually got excited. I saw him wag his tail for the first time since we brought him home!! :) then as we were outside, he shook off a little bit :D
Left with Ash to go down to bkln. Mark left to go to work at 4:30. I stayed in bk all night and Mark got home at 3:30am. Charlie greeted him at the door... Somehow he managed to get out of his cage while both doors were still closed like some kind of Houdini. There was poop and pee in his cage, poop and pee in the bathroom, he chewed Ashley's phone charger up and a paper bag we got for Meg to put wedding gifts in. Mark scolded him for chewing the cord and he pooped while Mark was doing that!! ... It was our fault. We left him in the cage for way too long. We are setting curfews for eachother and decided that while we are home, he's not allowed to be in the cage, unless he hasn't peed or pooped outside.

Charlie day 4: Friday

I'm foggy with the events that took place during the day but I took him for his bedtime walk and nothing came out. After I went to bed, Mark stayed up for a little but and fell asleep on the couch. When he woke up, Charlie had peed in the livingroom and pooped in the bathroom.

Charlie, day 3: Thursday

This morning I took him out and he pooped but he didn't pee. We were outside for about a half hour. We went in and I was doing my morning routine of getting ready and I went to the kitchen at one point and found a puddle of pee. I know it was an accident and I felt bad for not waiting longer for him to do it outside. He wasn't eating his food so I fed him out of my hand again. My friend Ashley is visiting from Oklahoma. I met her at Grand Central and she's staying with us until Monday. We got home and he was chillin in his cage. I fed him dinner out of my hands again. Ashley did too an he ate it all. I was sitting next to his cage petting him and rubbing him and at one point he rolled his back legs so they were up in the air and he was showing me his belly. He laid like that for a few seconds then put his legs down. I'm taking that as a sign of submission. I think he really loves me! He also sniffed my face and our noses touched. I melted :)

Charlie Day 2: Wednesday

I woke up at 5:45 this morning, 15 minutes before my alarm went off. Laid in bed for a few minutes and heard Charlie rustling around in his cage and wimpering. I took him out. We walked around the block up to Katonah and back. He pooped! And he peed! Hesagudboyyy. We came back inside (he's afraid of the entryway where there are two doors. If both doors are closed, he cowers. If they are both open, he happily but quickly walks through them) and I gave him fresh water and closed the cage so he couldn't go in it. I took a shower and left for work. He was in his cage for about 8 hours. Mark left a bone in his cage with him, which he ate all of. When Mark got home he opened the cage "to pat 'im in the head" but he didn't come out. I got home about an hour later and we took him for about a 2 hour walk. We went to the dog run, which he had no interest in. He met 5 other dogs! We talked to a lady who lives near the dog run for a really long time. She owns a beautiful black lab mix named Dove and she calls her Lovey Dovey and I think that's so sweet! We got home finally and Charlie laid in his cage while Mark and I putz'd around the kitchen and took showers. Mark got in bed and I was saying good night to Charlie and I fed him a treat, which he accepted from my hand! Then I got the bright idea to try to feed him his food from my hand. He hasn't eaten since he got here!!! He gobbled up handful after handful and I even got him to drink a bit of water! So I called Mark out and he was feeding him from his hand as well. He would only eat if one of us was out there. So I was hiding in the hallway. We fed him until he didn't want any more to eat (which was about a days worth of food). I feel so much better knowing he ate. It's only the second day but I know he's going to come out of his shell and be the perfect pooch I know he is.

Charlie, day 1:Tuesday, June 19, 2012

We went to pick him up this morning. He was neutered yesterday. Brought him home in a cab, he was wrapped in a blanket from the shelter. Curled up between us, he was shaking. Got him home, Mark took him across the street to where he could relieve himself but he cowered and laid down in the tiny patch of grass. Came inside and immediately found the open and inviting cage, where a sheet and pillow were laid down for him. I went to work and Mark stayed home with him all day. He closed the cage and Charlie wandered around aimlessly. He ate some cooked chicken and drank some water. Met another dog on a walk. Didn't go to the bathroom at all, or eat any dry food out of his dish. When I got home, Mark came to the door to greet me and he stepped out of his cage for a minute and looked at us then went back to lay down. I laid next to his cage for a little bit, petting him and talking to him, and I gave him a treat, which he ate immediately. I'm going to get up at 6 to walk him.
